She suffered nerve damage in 2007
Despite suffering nerve damage in 2007, Carla Esparza has been able to return to action in recent years. Rose Namajunas defeated her to win the UFC strawweight title in May. She is expected in November to defend her title, against Zhang Weili (former champ). Recent updates on social media were posted by her regarding her fight camp.
Esparza was injured in the accident and went to the hospital. Her hospital bill was $30,000 but she agreed to fight. The following year, she fought Maya Hamasaki in Invicta FC 7. Claudia Gadelha fought her again, but Gadelha was ill with stomach cancer.
