LPGA Drive On Championship is an annual series of women's tournaments. It was formed after several other tournaments were cancelled. The event's slogan "Drive On!" Volvik USA sponsors this event as part of the LPGA Tour. Leona Maguire leads the field going into the 2022 tournament. Marina Alex is second.
Leona Maguire leads the 2022 LPGA Drive On Championship
Leona Maguire finished on 18-under at Fort Myers’ LPGA Drive On Championship. With a final-round 67, she became the first Irish woman in the LPGA Tour's top 100. Maguire's 198 total was also a career best, equaling her previous record of 15 over par in the 2021 Pelican Women's Championship.
Maguire is conscious of the historic significance of her victory on women’s golf, in her home country, and the tour. She still struggles with the fame that comes with it. Even the president from Ireland congratulated Maguire on her win at the February 2022 Drive On Championship.
Marina Alex is second
Marina Alex has had a stellar season so far. However, that's just one reason for her success. Alex was out of action for seven months due to a back injury. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck the United States, Alex's schedule was altered. To stay in shape, she needed to work out more. In September, she had back problems and competition was resumed. She persevered, and was determined that she would be able to recover in time for the end.
Alex has made all but one cut in recent times. She tied for fourth in February's LPGA Drive On Championship. She was also good during the West Coast Swing. She placed 35th at Mission Hills Country Club Rancho Mirage's Chevron Championship and was tied for 10th at Wilshire Country Club Los Angeles' DIO Implant L.A. Open.
Annika Sorenstam, host of the LPGA Tour event, will be hosting it in 2023
Annika Sorenstam will host a tournament on the LPGA Tour 2023 in Tampa Bay. It will be named the "Annika driven by Gainbridge at Pelican" and will take place at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla. Sorenstam is an LPGA Hall of Famer and is the most decorated female golfer of all time. This will be the LPGA Tour’s final event of the season.
Sorenstam has been busy hosting events around the world. She co-hosts the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed event alongside Henrik Stenson. Co-hosting the Ginn Tribute, Mount Pleasant, S.C. was also her recent task. She has won a total number of 72 LPGA Tour event and 10 majors. She holds the record for the most money with over $22,000,000 in earnings. She was awarded the US Senior Women's Open award last year.
