Gina Carano began her professional mixed martial arts career by training in Muay Thai. Her professional debut was made in 2006 when she posted a 7-1 record under EliteXC. She faced Rosi Sexton in 2008 and won by knockout. Due to her success with MMA, she was able compete for Strikeforce's women’s champion.

While she wasn't a fan of martial art as a child she became interested in it later on. She also grew up swimming and discovered that Muay Thai was something she wanted to do. Joanne had to take a Muay Thailand class while her brother was at school. The activities captivated her immediately. Soon after, she asked for permission from her mother to attend class twice per week and began training on her own.


After finishing a kickboxing course in college, Todd wanted to compete professionally. With no opportunities available in her home country, she turned to kickboxing. She loved the challenge of Muay Thai. Todd has participated in many of the world's most important tournaments during her time on the ring. Although she still has a passion for competing professionally, she is also working as an aerospace engineer.

Gina Carano's knockouts are numerous. Her seven-time win by stoppage record was also impressive. She had previously won 14 Muaythai competitions before entering the ring. Her knockout percentage was 94.8%. It was amazing to see that her first knockout took under three minutes. Carano was an athlete growing up in Las Vegas. She played volleyball, softball and basketball. She didn't intend to fight, but her high school athletic achievements helped her achieve her dream.

Carano's outstanding career KO record, despite her smaller competition, is not surprising. She has a record with 22 wins, nine losses and nine knockouts. She fought in the strawweight and flyweight divisions and won all but one of her fights by way of KO.
