Despite her upbringing in the United States, Gu Jianlin, a female Chinese-American athlete, made the decision to represent her mother's country, China, at the Olympic games. Many Americans were surprised by her decision, especially since it came at a time when tensions existed between the two countries. Many people even labeled her a traitor. The decision to represent her mom's country was unpopular, and society treated it differently than if she remained in the United States.

Feminism

This study investigates the role of feminist ideologies and women's marketing in female athletic advertising. Although the sample is very small, it may provide insight about the female athlete audience and the role that feminism plays in marketing athletic products. Its results may also be useful in inspiring further research. Nonetheless, a larger sample size might yield more robust conclusions. Additional research could help us understand the relationship of feminism to athletic values.

Size

Reports about the size of Asian female athletes are often focused on their beauty and strength. This type of commentary has been a persistent feature of Asian-American Olympics coverage. Despite stereotypes, Asian Americans excel in many other sports.

Fragility

Asian American women have been making their journey to the Olympics and have been closely watched by national teams and fans. Zhu Yi has been mocked recently for falling during a team event. Zhu, who was born in China, gave up her American citizenship so she could compete for China.

Color

The history of Asian female athletes in sports has been complicated. While most Asian female athletes are white in the US, and in most Asian countries, there are still some Asian women who are successful in sports. Chinese athletes have been the most prominent and successful in sports dominated by non-Asians. But there are also several Asian women who have been unlucky, despite their extraordinary talent and drive.

Status

Asian female athletes have become more prominent by winning medals in international competitions and at the Olympic games. They are role models, diplomats, and often speak out against injustice in their personal and professional lives. Vogue Singapore celebrates seven female athletes from Asia in this issue.

Race

There have been long-standing stereotypes about race, especially when it comes to competitive sports. Particularly, Asian athletes were portrayed as weak, fragile, and biologically inept for modern sports. Despite these stereotypes, Asian women are now well-known in the sporting arena and are often featured in news stories. These stories often feature athletes' psychological and physical strengths.
