Williams's achievements transcended her sport, and opened the doors for women to reach greatness. Williams broke down barriers and overcame prejudice to inspire a new generation. Even her husband wore T-shirts with an image and message of her, including one that featured her.

Natasha Hastings, one of the fastest women on the planet

Natasha Hastings is the Olympic sprint champ and both are American. She was about to get married and planned to retire from track and field to raise a family. A series of unanticipated events changed her plans. Despite everything going wrong in her life, she was able focus on her family and still competed in her last Olympics.


A two-time Olympic gold medalist, Natasha Hastings specializes in the 400-meter event, as well as the 4x400-meter relay. She studied Exercise Science at the University of South Carolina. She won the 400-meter indoor and outdoor NCAA Championships.

Jessica Ennis-Hill is one of the best overall athletes in Britain

Jessica Ennis-Hill attended Highfield and Dore High Schools in Sheffield and went on to study psychology at the University of Sheffield. She was always nervous before competitions, and almost fell ill. She finished her degree and became one of Britain's most successful current athletes. She trained for over 10,000 hours in preparation for the 2012 Olympics. She would then perform plyometric drills on a Sheffield park. After more than a year of preparation, she won her final event in the heptathlon. This was a track and cross event.

Simone Biles is the only female athlete to achieve such a feat

Simone Biles began gymnastics as a child and has been a great athlete ever since. However, she never dreamed of winning Olympic medals; all she wanted was a college scholarship. Her determination and hard work paid off and by the time she was 14, she had qualified for the elite level of the sport four times. She is the only female athlete to have won three all-around world titles in a single year.

Although she was a star pupil at Bannon's Gymnastix as a child, Biles was diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder at a very young age. Nellie Biles her mother was a champion for her daughter. She taught the girl how to focus and set goals.
