She confidently scored the penalty kick in the corner to beat AD Franch of the USA. This was Canada's first victory over the United States in more than 20 years.

Emily Sonnet’s goal
Emily Sonnett, a United States woman's soccer player, is one of the best. She was the NCAA Championships' Most Outstanding Defensive Player and a Two-Time First-Team All-American. In 2015, she won the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. She also won the ESPNW Soccer Player of the Year award. After graduating UVA in 2004, she entered the NWSL draft. She was the semifinalist of the 2016 NWSL Championship and scored her first pro-goal against the Western New York Flash. She received her first senior-level cap from the U.S. in 2016 and was an alternate for the Rio Olympics.
Canada's energy
The Canada team was full of energy during the match against the U.S. At halftime, the match was tied 1-0. Canada was energetic throughout the match, with a high energy level that continued to rise as the game progressed. While the United States was more energetic off the bench than Canada, the Canadian team dug deep to set the pace. Although it was sometimes disjointed, they were able to do so perfectly.
Emily Sonnet's penalty kick
Emily Sonnet's penalty kick broke a record that had stood for 969 minutes. She scored the penalty kick despite having a cast placed on her right arm. It was Sonnett's international debut goal. Sonnett scored the goal in the 34th minute. Ashley Sanchez also scored in the 34th minute.
Canada's energy consumption in the second quarter
In the US Women's National Team game against Canada, the USWNT displayed some aggressive energy in the second period. They moved forward and had several half opportunities, including an off-target shot by Lindsey Horan. Canada's defense held firm and stood strong against US pressure. Canada held firm despite the US pressure. Alex Morgan almost scored a goal with a penalty kick.
