Rose Lavelle, USWNT Matchfielder of the Year

Rose Lavelle is a Cincinnati-based player of soccer. At age 5, she began playing soccer in coed youth leagues of the YMCA. She didn't celebrate her first goal and smiled. She just kept going with the game. Later, she played for many local soccer clubs including Cincinnati United Premier Soccer Club. She also played college hockey at the University of Wisconsin.

Lavelle grew into a Cincinnati native and attended Mount Notre Dame High School. Later she was awarded a scholarship by the University of Wisconsin. Today, she plays for the Washington Spirit in the NWSL. Neil Bradford, the Cincinnati Soccer trainer, was instrumental in Lavelle's discovery of her love for soccer.

Lavelle has played for the United States women’s team at the senior and youth levels. She was named top Big Ten midfielder on November 15, 2015. She later received a first-team all-American honor from the NSCAA. Lavelle was also a member of the Dayton Dutch Lions W-League team in 2014, and the Seattle Sounders Women W-League team in 2015. Lavelle graduated college and joined Washington Spirit. After graduating from college, Lavelle moved back to Dayton to begin the 2016 Women's Premier Soccer League.

In December of 2015, Rose Lavelle won the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year award. Rose Lavelle was also chosen to the U.S. Women's National Team. However, she didn't make it on the game-day team. That's when her frustration began to build. She felt that she wasn’t making progress and wasn’t prepared for the rigors associated with playing for the National Team. She was able to overcome her fears by meeting Coach Wilkins.

While playing soccer for the Badgers, Rose Lavelle is also a very active member of the university's community service programs. Rose Lavelle has been involved in Wish Upon a Badger Experience (women's soccer) and Thank-A-Thon (youth soccer clinics). She is now a brand ambassador to the premium light beer FLIGHT By Yuengling.

She has been a key member of the U.S. Women's National Team

Rose Lavelle is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. When she was only 15 years old, Rose Lavelle became a crucial member of U.S. Women's National Team. She was recently in Czech Republic for the SheBelieves Cup. Even though the USWNT was victorious in the game, they still outshot their opponents 18-6. Rose Lavelle was named Budweiser Woman of the Match.

Lavelle was injured in a friendly match against Australia in June 2017. After sustaining a hamstring injury in June 2017, Lavelle returned to the USWNT to play the final game. She showed a lot of creativity throughout tournament. Both her teammates as well as her coaches praised her for being a breakout player.

Lavelle is a former player at the World Cup of the United States. She played against Thailand in her World Cup debut, but she sat out against Chile. She returned to the United States against Sweden and helped them press their attacks.
