Jill Ellis started a mentoring programme for the next generation in women's soccer coaching. She is also the president of San Diego Wave FC, the newest club in the National Women's Soccer League. She will share the knowledge and experience she has gained in building communities and motivating people to achieve a common goal.


Ellis has been working hard for the past year to create the program. The money Ellis raises will be used to help promising women coaches, who might otherwise not have the funds to pay for expensive licensing programs. Women will be assigned mentors to help them grow their professional networks and provide advice. The program is expected to sponsor about three dozen women in its first year.

Jill Ellis was born into a country in which girls were not allowed to play competitive soccer. Margaret Ellis was her mother and opposed to her daughter's participation. It was considered unladylike at the time to play soccer. She moved to Virginia when she was 17 to play soccer, and she also led her high school soccer team towards a state championship.

She holds a USSF Pro coaching license

Jill Ellis has been an experienced coach for more 20 years. She holds a USSF Pro coaching licensure. She began her career at a young age, playing soccer for Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax, Virginia. She later went on to win the state championship and the Under-21 Championship with her local team, the Braddock Road Bluebelles. She was also an All-American soccer player in college at William and Mary University. Ellis won accolades for her coaching work, even though she was only 20 years old when she played.

Ellis has extensive experience as a coach and in sports management. Ellis has held numerous leadership positions, including the United States Soccer Federation Development Director. She was also an assistant coach for U.S. women’s national team, and coached women's youth soccer teams. Ellis was appointed interim head coach for the senior women's team in 2012. She was the interim coach for two matches in 2014. In 2014, Ellis received a USSF Pro coaching licensure.
