Varas' USMNT U20 squad features a mix of top MLS talent and European imports. Only one of the players has ever played in an U20 team, while others have been regular starters for MLS clubs. However, the squad is lacking a central forward.
Revelations Cup
On Wednesday, the U.S. Men's National Team's (USMNT), will launch its Revelations Cup Tournament Mexico. The tournament will be a 10-day event that features four U-20 national teams of world-class quality. This tournament will bring together some of the most exciting players in sports and help to rewrite history.
Varas and his squad are coming off a poor showing in their opening game of the Revelations Cup against Brazil. Varas was only hired in December and the squad had a few training sessions before the competition. The squad did not register one goal. Varas however stated that his team is ready for tough challenges and are determined to do better.
FIFA U-20 World Cup
The FIFA U-20 World Cup (for male players younger than 20 years old) is a biennial soccer tournament. FIFA organizes the tournament. The first edition was held in Tunisia back in 1977. It was previously known as the FIFA World Youth Championship, but has since become a world-renowned event. Qualify from six youth championships to qualify for the tournament. The two highest-scoring teams from each group will advance to the next stage. The remaining teams are eliminated.
Argentina is the most successful tournament team, having won the tournament six times. Their last title was won in Canada in 2007. Brazil, England. Ukraine.
Olympic qualifying tournaments for players below 23
The Olympic qualifying tournament for under-23 players has been held every four years. This tournament is open to players aged under 23 and is not part of the FIFA World Cup. Each nation can have up to three wildcards beyond the age limit. The United States has failed to qualify for the tournament three out of the last four years, losing to El Salvador, Canada, and Mexico. The United States didn't have to forfeit any players under 23 because they were already playing on the senior national team.
Brazil, Mexico and Canada will all be represented in the group stage. The U-23 squad will also face CONCACAF on March 18. The first group game will be against Costa Rica on March 18. The next game in the group stage will be a knockout game between the top two teams. The winners of the group stage will advance to the knockout round, where they will play each other.
Team USA vs Honduras u20
As they try to qualify for Pre-World Cup, the Hondurans will be looking to take advantage of their home advantage. The Hondurans had a strong performance on the group stage and will look to build on that success in the CONCACAF U-20 qualifying rounds. The match is set to take place at the General Francisco Morazan Stadium, also known as La Bombonerita.
Honduras won 2-1 against Panama in its last match. Marco Tulio Aceituno scored a brace in Honduras' 2-1 win over Panama. From start to finish, however, the United States won that match. The Hondurans want to continue their winning ways by eliminating their opponents.
