LPGA Women's Professional Golfers

If you've ever watched a professional golfer compete, you may have noticed a few female players in very revealing clothing. Paige Spiranac is one example. She was known to wear a small skirt on the golf course before the dress codes were enforced. Male golfers criticized the LPGA for shaming female players. Today, however, the dress code has been lifted.

Lexi Thompson

Alexis Noel Thompson is an American professional golfer who plays on the LPGA Tour. She was 12 years of age when she was eligible to play in the U.S. Women's Open. She became a professional when she was 15 years old. Since then, she has qualified for many other major championships. Her June 2016 victory in the LPGA was her first.

She was twelve years old when she became the youngest ever woman to participate in the US Women's Open. At sixteen years old, she had become the youngest LPGA champion and had already won her first tournament. At just 20 years old she won several LPGA tournaments. She is also considered one of world's best-fit athletes. She practices for three hour, plays 18-holes, eats lunch, then works out with a personal trainer. In addition to the LPGA Tour, Thompson also donates her time to charities such as the Wounded Warrior Project.

Thompson was one of most exciting players in the game in 2015, but she's had a tough year in 2021. She held a five-shot advantage at the US Women's Open 2021 but was unable to capitalize. She won the LGPA Japan Tour and Ladies European Tour. She is currently ranked 9th on the Rolex Player Rankings. Last spring, she tied for 17th in the Lotte Championship and the ANA Inspiration event. She also missed the chance to win her second major tournament, at Avnet LPGA Classic.

Michelle Maguire

Leona Maguire became the first Irishwoman to win on the LPGA Tour when she won the Drive On Championship in Florida. The 27-year old finished at -18, three strokes better than Lexi Thompson. Maguire started out the season with five birdies and went into the final round tied with Marina Alex. To win the title, she birdied 10th, 11th and 13th holes.

The overall outlook for 2020 was positive for the Irishwoman, although there were some low points during the first stages. She missed 16 LPGA Match-Play matches in May but bounced back to her best form this summer. Maguire attributes her success to a variety of experiences, both positive and negative, from which she has learned. Positive experiences help build confidence, while negative ones serve as reality checks.

In addition to her golf achievements, Maguire was named to the 2017-18 WGCA All-American Scholars team. This honor goes to student-athletes who are academically and athletically outstanding. Maguire's honors include being a captain or team MVP. Lydia Ko's record, which she set for most World Amateur ranking weeks, was also broken by Maguire. She was also named honorary recipient of the ACC Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship, which recognizes exceptional student-athletes and their intention to earn a graduate degree.
