Draft of the WNBA

lpga tournaments

Each year, the WNBA holds a Draft to select new players. The draft draws players drawn from a pool of talented women's basketball players. 1997 was the first WNBA Draft. There are now nearly 60 teams. The draft is made up of a number of categories, including overall strength as well as speed and athleticism. You also have the chance to win a new star.

Shakira Austin

The Lakers are expected this season to be a major contender and Austin will provide them with depth at the center position. Austin will also be able to guard several positions and is a good fit with their veteran depth and veteran players. Austin plays well outside of the paint and will benefit from Delle Donne's presence. Her defensive instincts are also excellent, but she will be tested by the WNBA's most difficult defenses.

Washington Mystics selected Shakira Austin as the No. She was the third overall pick in WNBA Draft. She is the sixth Ole Miss product to be drafted in the WNBA. Austin was an Ole Miss Golden Eagles player for two seasons. Her first-team All SEC honors helped Austin reach her first NCAA tournament appearance in seven years.

Mya Hollingshed

Mya Hollingshed was on the Pre-Woden Award Watch List, but despite her impressive stats, she has never played basketball. She is from an athlete family. Her grandfather, who played basketball at Grambling in 1978, was drafted by Washington Bullets in the 2nd round. Hollingshed enjoyed soccer her senior year and junior year, but her mother thought it was too competitive.

The Las Vegas Aces offered her a position as a player on the wing, but she refused. They didn't want to take a risk on her being available at No. 11 or later. Hollingshed is still a possibility and won't be turned down. It is probable that her WNBA professional career will begin in future.

Nyara Sabally

On Monday, Nyara Sabally, a big man from New York was selected by the New York Liberty in the fifth round. Sabally has suffered a knee injury and will not be playing this season. Sika Konge was also selected by team. 29 pick, after she had surgery on her right knee in March. Sabally was a top choice because of her size. But her knee issues have made it a risky selection.

Not only was she the fifth overall pick but Sabally is also the sister to Oregon star Satou, who plays with the Dallas Wings. She is yet to be drafted in the WNBA but has been a strong player for the Ducks. In 2020, she and her sister were drafted together. This was their first time in the draft since Chiney Ogwumike (2008). Sabally may prove as great as her sister.
